Are you dealing with bugs, rodents, or wildlife in your yard or in your home? Use this quick reference page to find out what threats those pests may present to you, your family, and your property. Ants
Ants have three distinct body parts in the form of a head, thorax, and abdomen and have a pair of bent antennae. Ants are common invaders and often find their way inside homes and businesses while foraging for food.
View PestBed Bugs
Bed bugs are oval-shaped, reddish-brown insects that are flattened from top to bottom. These parasitic pests are wingless, have antennae, six legs, and adults grow to be about 1/4 of an inch in length.
View PestCarpet Beetles
Their exact color and mottled color pattern is dependent on their specific species. Adults grow to between 1/8th and 3/16th of an inch in length. Carpet beetle larvae are about ¼ of an inch in length, and have a tapered, carrot-like shape. These pests are brown in color with lighter-colored stripes and bristles covering their bodies.

Cockroaches have flattened, oval-shaped bodies, and six legs that are covered in spines. Their long antenna is usually the same length as their bodies. Their color is usually black, brown, or reddish-brown. Many species of cockroaches are winged, but few species are great fliers. Cockroaches have a three-stage life cycle: egg, nymph, and adult. Cockroach nymphs look similar to the adults, but are smaller in size and are wingless.

Rodents are all characterized by a single pair of continuously-growing front incisors that are found in their upper and lower jaws.

Silverfish are nuisance pests that are often found invading homes. These occasional invaders have teardrop-shaped bodies and three bristle-like appendages that extend from their hind-ends. These pests are wingless, but are able to move quickly using a wriggling, fish-like motion, hence their name. Silverfish grow to be about 3/4 of an inch in length and have antennae that are as long as their bodies.

Spiders are identified by their two body parts - a fused head and thorax, and their abdomen. Spiders have between six and eight eyes, eight legs, no wings, and no antennae. They do not have chewing mouthparts, but instead use digestive enzymes in their saliva to break down their food before consuming it.

There are many different types of stinging insects found living throughout the United States. Bees, yellow jackets, wasps, and hornets are a few common examples. Stinging insects are beneficial to the environment as the predatory species hunt down and feed on many different species of nuisance insects, helping to keep their populations down.

Termites are social, wood-destroying insects that live and work together to maintain their large colonies and are commonly found invading homes and businesses here in Ellsworth. Wood-boring beetles are destructive pests that cause damage to the wood they invade. Female wood-boring beetles lay their eggs on a suitable piece of wood, typically wood that has not been seasoned or processed.
